Top Picks for Week 13

Ok fantasy players let’s get this final week of the fantasy regular season off right. For some of you it may be a must win others you are already have a playoff spot locked in. This week for me is a must win because I want the first round bye. In order for that to happen I need the first place guy to lose or tie. Before I kick this week off fully I’d like to recap last week where I picked 2 out of 3 Chad Henne and Ryan Broyles. Both players had solid showings where Henne threw 17-26 for 261 yards and 2 touchdowns while also tossing a pair of picks, but still ended the day with 23 fantasy points which happened to be higher than Payton Manning and Aaron Rodgers and Broyles caught half of his 12 targets for a 6 catches and 126 yard day not bad for a fill in player. Now let’s get this final regular season week started.

This week I’m going to where the sky is the limit at Mile-High with Knowshon Moreno of Denver. Last week after coming off injury and filling in for the injured McGhee, Moreno had 20 carries for 85 yards and catching all four of his targets for 26 yards. Moreno’s season is a bust since he hasn’t played since week 2 where he only had 8 carries for 15 yards and a touchdown. Look for Moreno to finish out the rest of the season making up for lost time. Moreno is a strong pass blocker so between running the ball and catching the ball Moreno should see a lot of time on the field. Tampa Bay has the league’s best run defense, but look for Denver to have a balanced attack of running and throwing the ball. Worst case is Moreno sees more targets in the passing game than carries. Payton Manning is a quarterback that knows how to use all his options to move the ball down the field. I’ll be a little bold to say Moreno runs for about 65 yards and a touchdown while catching around a 4-6 passes for another 40-50 yards. I’ve already placed Moreno as my flex player this week.

Again I’m heading to the Motor City, this time for a tight end. Brandon Pettigrew is a tight end that definitely gets his looks. Last week he was targeted 15 times, that’s more targets than almost every wide-out last week. He had 8 catches last week for 74 yards. The only downside to Pettigrew is that he tends to fumble the ball or drop passes, but Stafford has a good relationship with his tight end because he still goes to him when he needs to. Look for Pettigrew to continue to get his looks against the Colts. Pettigrew is projected to have an 11 point day and if he gets the looks he did against Houston then he’ll definitely hit that mark and possibly reach the end zone this week.

In third place comes a back that could surprise people this week and that back comes from the sunshine state of Florida and the Jaguars. Rashad Jennings hasn’t made the most out of his opportunities but look for a change this week against a Buffalo team that has given up some points to opposing running backs. MJD is still likely to be out and Parmele on IR the running duties are on Jennings to shine. While Jennings is only averaging 2.8 yards a carry that will probably move closer to 5 yards a carry against that Bills front seven and due to an increase of carries. I have used Jennings in the past and he had fair day as a fill-in player when I needed one because of injury which my team has had its fair share of lately. Jennings has a very good opportunity to punch one in this week which I fully believe he will to reach that high projection he was given of 17. I would be more likely to say he’ll be around 14 points by the end of the day.

One thing I have never done on a post is pick a defense/special team but this year has been a crazy year where D/ST have been putting up numbers better than some running backs or wide-outs. So this week its a go for broke week and I'm rolling with the Arizona Cardinals verse the leagues' 28th ranked passing offense in the N.Y. Jets. The Jets season has been horrible to say the least. While the Cardinals defense is only projected 7 points it would not surprise anyone if they hit double digits in the first half.

Turkey Weekend Top 3 Picks

This week was a shorter week since we have Thanksgiving, which makes for some early match ups that can yield some early out the gate starters. Since Gronk went down last week at least one team in every league is looking for a tight end. Well you are in luck if this is you.

My first pick this week is someone I'm sure you have heard very little about since he is on the waiver wire and that is Marcedes Lewis of Jacksonville. While he is projected to have only 7 points Chad Henne went to him 3 times for 40 yards and 2 touchdowns which against a solid Houston defense is good. It shows he isn't heavily targeted but Henne has been in the league long enough to see how good quarterbacks use their tight ends. Look for Lewis to get those looks when the Jags get into the red zone which they should do regularly against Tennessee. Also keep in mind that Lewis is be far not a Gronk and will not put up the points Gronk can, but he is a solid fill in player for at least this week.

My second pick is also from the Jaguars and that Chad Henne. Henne had an explosive game to say the least against the Texans. Henne shelled the Texans for 354 yards and 4 touchdowns. Yes 4 touchdowns from a defense that has only had one other game this season that they gave up 3 or more touchdowns to and that was a week 6 match up verse a future Hall of Fame quarterback named Aaron Rogers. So Henne and the Jags should be very happy with that. While this week the Jags and company are not playing Houston they are playing the Titans who give up about 260 yards and 2 touchdowns a game making Henne a good sleeper pick if your like me dealing with losing Big Ben.

My third pick this week comes from the motor city. Ryan Broyles is a good use this week since Young is suspended and Burleson is on IR. Broyles has had solid games against teams with solid to good defenses. Also since Calvin Johnson (aka Megatron) requires so much respect for his talent Broyles will have the number 2 corner on him. Since Detroit is playing those same Texans that gave up 4 touchdowns to Chad Henne look for Stafford to go to the air early and often. The Lions are a better team than the Jaguars talent wise so Broyles may only be projected 10 points he'll probably end the day a little farther north of that number.

5 Players To Look At This Week

Last week I didn't have such a great week but I'm back at it again. This week I found 5 players to start, sit or use caution with.

My starter this week is Carson Palmer of Oakland. I'm sure some of you think I've lost my mind but just hear me out. Over the past 2 weeks Palmer has put up 782 yards and 6 TD's against not great but solid defenses in Tampa Bay and Baltimore. A downside though is he does turn the ball over. Even with that Palmer is averaging 33 points over the same 2 week span. If any of you are like me and need a QB since Big Ben, Vick, Cutler, & Smith all went down Palmer may be a perfect fill in for a week or two. New Orleans averages 27.9 points a game to opposing QB's The Saints defense has only had 3 games this season where the opposing QB has scored 25 or fewer points. Lastly, the Saints secondary isn't the best giving up and average of 322 yards a game.

My second pick this week is Jeremy Kerley of the New York Jets. Now I know you think I'm crazy. Kerley is a Jet and they are terrible this year but some weeks they are worth the start and this week is one of them. While Kerley is ranked 40th among starting wide outs he averages a little over 11 points a game. Kerley is one of about 3 Jets that are worth a look this week. The Rams secondary is a middle of the road team giving up 31.8 points a week to opposing wide outs. With Kerley as the clear number 1 receiver on the team and little or no production out of any of the other wide outs he should have a great game and even make it into the end zone.

My third player to look at this week is Jamaal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs. He ripped it off a 100 yard game against a weak left sided Steeler D, he has the potential to have repeat performance against the league's 26th ranked defense in Cincinnati. If the DaBoll remembers his game plan from last week and seen how effective Charles was he'll dial up run and pass plays that put the ball in the veterans' hands so he can do what he does...... move the chains.

This we I have a caution player which happens to be Steven Jackson of St. Louis. Last week he had the best game of the season which gained him 20 points in my league against a good forty-niner defense. I however don't see him repeated that even against a sub-par Jet defense. I consider what happened last week a off week for a good defense. The only thing that could allow Jackson to have a great game is the fact that Amendola is back and now the Rams aren't a one dimensional team. 

Lastly, comes my last caution pick of Josh Freeman while he was red hot coming off the bye week he has started to slow down over the past few weeks. One great thing about Freeman is that he doesn't turn the ball over. While Freeman could have solid day I don't see him having the kind of game he has had in the last few weeks. I could see him having a game with about 250 yards passing and 2 TD's which is close to his projection, but then the factor of the Carolina defense gets added in which only gives up 17.8 points a game and is the league's 10th best passing defense. It'll take a good running game from Doug Martin (which put up 95 yards against Carolina in the first meeting) only to open up the passing lanes for Freeman. Also something to look at is Freeman only had 138 yards passing and 1 TD in the season opener at home.

Top 4 Start'ems With a Side of 2 Sit'ems

This week I managed to find 4 good starters. But before I get into that I would like to say I have seen quite a few views of my blog but yet not a single comment. I encourage you to leave comments to let me know how your season is going and how my advice is assisting in your domination in your fantasy league. I write this blog because I love fantasy football I'm nowhere near gifted enough to play in the NFL so I choose to break down the play of the players that can. So now its on to what you have been waiting for:

My sleeper pick is Kenny Britt of Tennessee. Last year I had Britt until he tore his ACL. He was a monster at the wide out position. This year he is off to a slow start, but how can you blame him when coming back off knee surgery and not having the best support at the quarterback position. I can see Britt having a good day against Miami. The Dolphins are terrible against the pass averaging just over 40 points a game to opposing wide outs. The Dolphins gave up 313 yards to Indy. I can expect that to continue Sunday when Britt and company come to town.

My second pick this week is Vincent Jackson of Tampa Bay. San Diego is giving up 33 points to wide outs this year. Even though the last two weeks the Charger D has shown up to play they have been playing lesser opponents in Cleveland and Kansas City. Josh Freemen is still tearing it up right now even he would be a solid starter this week. Jackson is projected 21 points this week and should have a great day targeted early and often against his former squad.

Coming in at the number 3 spot is Josh Freeman of Tampa Bay. Freeman has two big weapons on the outside in Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams and one big weapon in the backfield in Doug Martin. The linebackers will have to stay closer to the line of scrimmage which should open passing lanes for Freeman to find his wide outs.






My last pick this week is Roddy White of Atlanta. New Orleans is giving up 44 points a game to wide outs this year. White is averaging 17 points a game this year and is still a starter type receiver and one of Matt Ryan's go to targets. White should have a great day against a weaker Saints secondary.









Now comes my Sit'em section.

Starting it off is Percy Harvin of Minnesota. Even though he is considered doubtful if he is active you should sit'em since his ankle can not be near 60% after suffering a sprain in 3 different spots.

My last pick to sit the week out is C.J. Spiller. Last meeting against New England Spiller had only 4 points. Since New England has added to their secondary means the linebackers can stay closer to the line of scrimmage to shut down Spiller and Jackson. Spiller may be projected 14 points this week I don't see that happening against a rested New England D.

BOLD Pick for Week 9

As I said earlier in the week I would make a bold pick. Well here it is Mick Vick of Phi. Even though he has had some terrible games and turned the ball over I still think he is going to have a great game. The New Orleans Defense is very giving to opposing QB's. They are plus 7.6 points compared to the NFL avg. Even though he only had one TD last week against ATL, he put 191 yards. I can Vick putting up at least 250 yards and having 2 TD's one possibly as a rushing TD

One other player I like this week is Malcom Floyd of SD. While Floyd is only averaging 11 points a game right now, he is SD's only 100% healthy wide out. Even though Floyd only had 2 catches for 23 yards in the earlier game this season against KC, Floyd will get his targets from Phillip Rivers. Look at Floyd to have a solid day against KC.
